The Slice Tool Is Not a Knife
From questions I’ve gotten from artists, there seems to be a lot of confusion out there about the Slice tool. It is NOT the same thing as the Knife tool, which allows you to drag across selected objects and cut them into pieces. The Scissors tool, which cuts paths into separate paths wherever you click along the original path, is another cutting tool that has nothing to do with making slices. The Slice tool is used in creating Web graphics to divide an image up into separate images. So, now that we know which tool is which, let’s cut to the chase.
