Living In Layers - The OFFICIAL Layers Magazine Blog
Tutorials, Voices That Matter, MOO, & Contest
Happy Tuesday everyone! With getting back into the saddle here, I wanted to get you guys started with a bunch of tutorials that you may not have been able to catch up with during the Photoshop World event last week. I also wanted to spend some time highlighting some of the cool stuff I saw at Photoshop World because, hey.. I think they’re awesome and deserve some love.
I LOVE MOO Cards!
One of the first things that I saw on the show floor was MOO. While you would normally think Bovine, MOO is a cool company that is dedicated to putting out AWESOME card products. However, I am very, very jazzed about their business cards. The cards themselves are made out of a thicker stock, and (a really cool feature), they are slightly larger than the standard business card. Personally, I think that this combination of size and stock give a very International feel to them, and in this market, making yourself look competitive is ALL ABOUT the details. In this, I think MOO scores big. They also have these mini cards that you can get that also are head turners – kitschy, but really cool.
What makes them stand out from the pack however is the ability to have different prints made on the cards. 21.99 for a 50 pack of cards, but you can have up to 50 images for the set, so each card could be different! That allows me to take some of my portfolio and make it into a business card, carry it in their cool card holders, and an instant conversation is started when I am letting my client pick through the cool cards that I have for them to remember me by. I’m going to share some of the pics that I send to them, and show the results on Layers TV in the coming weeks. Genius! MOO – check them out – you will be so glad you did.
Voices That Matter – April 27-30 in San Fransisco
Coming off of teaching live in Boston, I’m super excited to be teaching the Voices that Matter Web Conference in San Francisco April 37-30. Our friends over at New Riders have put together an amazing list of speakers for you to learn about the best in web. I mean, check out the names! You have people like Greg Rewis, Stephanie Sullivan, Richard Harrington, Steve Krug, Robert Hoekman, Jr. and that’s just naming the ones on the list I’m excited to check out!
OK.. so what am I talking about there? Well.. I’m teaching two 3 hour segments I am calling “Build That Page” based on something I am working on privately. See, I think that there are a lot of people that want to come to conferences and learn stuff. However, I think that there are an even greater amount of people out there that don’t have the foggiest of how to even begin a website. The project has gone as far as just “Hey.. you need a website”. Now, for those people.. how do they get started?
In my 6 hours, we’re going to take an empty page, and fill it with a website. Think of it like flipping a house, but tech-related. We’ll talk about all of the technology to make it happen, and how software fits and helps in specific scenarios. It’s fun.. it’s fast, it’s web design in San Fran. So.. if you’re interested in spending some time making a site.. make sure you stop on in to the conference.
