Tutorials, Workshops and Contest Time
Welcome back everyone to another week, albeit a very abbreviated one. With the holidays fast approaching, you would think the holiday spirit would make the posting go away. But alas, it won’t. It couldn’t! There’s just too much cool stuff to share. Here are a couple of things you need to put on your radar, as well as a cool tutorial.
Joe McNally Workshops Announced
So before I get into it, let me share something that gave me a quick chuckle. This past weekend was my daughter Sabine’s christening. I was really excited about it and many pictures were taken. I could not stifle a giggle, however when our Deacon (who is just awesome) held my daughter and commented.. “OK.. I’m going to stand over here.. OK.. are you ready? OK.. I would like to get a really good clear shot for myself. Are you sure the shot’s clear?”
On the other end a gracious, unassuming, ever smiling Joe McNally stood, D3X in hand with his beautiful wife Anne by his side. “I think I got it,” he replied, as the flashes of the SB900 rang out in the church. A pleasure to meet up with my Northeast friends, though the cold was getting the best of me.
I bring this up to announce and remind. Reminder: knowing your equipment is vital, and Joe’s got some great classes on Kelby Training to make sure you take that SB800/SB900 to the next level, not to mention a new killer DVD out there (review coming shortly).
Announce: Over the weekend Joe announced that he will be holding a series of 5 workshops in January. Each workshop is limited to 12 people, and about 11 hours in length. You learn from him all sorts of cool stuff. This one will be guaranteed to sell out fast. Make sure you stop by his website and check it out!
Corey Barker in Illustrator
Leave it to my Layers TV co-host, Corey Barker, to come up with something cool to kick off a Monday morning. Corey is spending some time inside of Illustrator showing you how to use patterns and shapes to recreate an ad he saw. I love deconstructing things we see as tutorials- it lets you examine what you know, and what you need to know to make something cool. Click on the link below to get to the tutorial.

Jacob Cass on Paul Boag and the Art of Saying Yes
I love popping into Jacob Cass over at Just Creative Design. He always gives good information on the graphic design sides of things and this post really stood out for me. He recently went over a presentation Paul Boag did on how to get your clients to say “yes” to your designs. Totally something for you to check out. Click on the link below to check out the article.
